Butler & Co. Chartered Accountants

Careers

Julie Butler FCA, senior partner of Butler & Co, and Stephen Slater FCA who is the partner at the Bishops Waltham office and the partner in charge of training, both have a very committed view on helping people understand more about the accountancy profession and about careers in the profession.

Julie believes that it is a very structured career for anybody to enter into and the introduction of the AAT exams (Association of Accounting Technicians) and the ATT exams (Association of Tax Technicians) has meant that in addition to the traditional qualifications of chartered accountant and certified accountant there are now various qualifications at all levels within the profession.  This does mean that the entry qualifications are very flexible and that accountancy and tax are now careers that can be undertaken without the requirements of a degree or A levels.

Qualifying in accounts or tax does not mean that the person following that career has to be stuck in an accounts office for the rest of their lives.  There are a lot of uses that the qualification can be put to.  A large number of the directors of the UK industry are qualified accountants.  Accountancy can also be seen as a passport abroad as with this qualification there are a lot of overseas opportunities.  Accountancy is also a profession that offers excellent financial rewards.

Butler & Co are committed to employing new accounts and tax trainees every September and advertise these positions in July/August each year.  We pay all course and exam fees for the right individuals.

More about the AAT Qualification

The AAT qualifications are recognised by employers across all sectors and industries. The qualification consists of three levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Technician and each level is a qualification in its own right and you will be given a certificate for each level completed.  Once you have qualified, you can apply for full AAT membership which allows you to use the letters MAAT after your name.

More about the ATT Qualification

The ATT has become the leading professional body for those providing tax compliance services and related activities in the UK.

The qualification consists of four examinations, covering areas of personal and business tax and the principles of the law and accounts.   Upon successful completion of all examinations you are eligible to become a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians, which allows you to use the letters ATT after your name.

If you want to proceed with your taxation studies following the completion of ATT, you can become a Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA).
